Cancer changed everything

My sister passed last month and my life has changed forever. I'd like to thank the dozens of you that shared your story with me about your personal fights or a close friend or family members fight with cancer. Your stories were of amazing strengths and convictions and I was blown away by the power and passion of your words, each story was more amazing than the previous. Thank you for sharing them with me and I want you to know that I shared them with the immediate family and it gave them much needed strength.

Cancer changed everything in my life, how I look at it, how I live it and how I judge it. But as your life slows to a crawl and you can almost see things happen in slow motion because of your own personal fight or tragedy, life around you for others continues to go on, without noticing that your world has crumbled. Only those select few people in your inner circle know the truth and without these true friends, we might not have made it through so many of these fights or crises that we each endure which seems to be almost family for so many of us.

As CTI's life went on we opened two new collection call centers in India in the month of July 2009 and have plans to add three more in late August early September 2009. Our India partner, Sandeep Bhatnagar flew to the United States of America for the first time in his life this month. His first words as we left Orlando International Airport were "everything is so green here". I took him to a Hooters type place called the Wing House for his first interaction with American's on American soil. He was very surprised about the size of everything; most importantly the size of his chicken salad that he said could have fed his entire family back in India. He started to develop a liking for Bob Evans Family Restaurants and when he got a salad with a dressing he didn't like and made a face, I said, send it back and get something you like. He said, you can do that here? In India he said the chef would have come after him. He was equally surprised at the fact that restaurants will give you a giant 32 ounce soda to go and not charge you for it. He said that was unheard of in India, but again realize that sodas in India go for about 20 rupees or forty centers USD, whereas we might pay $1.39 for the same brand name like Coke or Pepsi products.

On July 4,2009 he participated in a July 4th parade in Flagler County, Florida and handed out candy to kids on the parade route for the gymnastics team my daughter is on who participated in the parade. We bought fireworks in NW Florida and took them to my in laws in Georgia where we sent up fireworks, shot paintball guns and shot my .45 caliber pistol at targets and had a BBQ. We also relaxed in the pool, drank some beer and smoked some cigars I had and tooled around in a hopped up golf cart as we covered my in laws 6 acres and nearby roads, many of which were dirt roads. He was very taken with most Americans and how friendly they seemed to be and how easily he was accepted by friends and family.

We finished up his trip by going to Disney's Magic Kingdom and showed up at 9am and stayed until 10pm for the electric light parade, which as anyone knows who has been to Disney, is a must see to end the day. They still had fireworks at 10 and then the parade at 11 again, but we didn't have it in us as we still had a 90 minute drive back to my house. I kept busting Sandeep on trying beef while he was in the U.S. and he said he would, as I have tried everything in India that they have put down in front of me. I didn't push too hard and eventually he promised to try a steak or Mickey D it up here in the U.S. on his return trip. In India the McDonald's didn't open early like 6 am and didn't have McBeef, just McChicken and McVeggie. For the record the fries taste the same there 9,000 miles away. To Hindu's cows are sacred and cause much of the McTraffic jams in India and for those who care, the Chinese food in India is amazing.

I really enjoyed having Sandeep staying with us for two weeks as there was a lot of comparisons on the culture and nature of the two types of peoples and societies at almost every turn. Sandeep is a wonderful person and partner and is one of a few reasons we have been so successful in India as the Industry's leader in bringing the only third party collect turn-key solution to India along with the first ever third party collection training school opened since 2008.
